Last week I watched Pride and Prejudice with my mom—she floated in and out of the room asking what was going on in each scene—and it drove me crazy. Seeing the love between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy made me appreciate the slow burn. It’s almost as if the fear and tension between the two of them made that ending scene so much more meaningful. I feel like nowadays in romance movies they meet at a bar and it’s like bam bedroom. I never knew I could appreciate a romance film without any sexual scenes until I saw this one.
Anyways, after I finished the film I didn’t want to stop seeing regency era British people on my screen, I could not have it otherwise, so I turned on Bridgerton. I didn’t pay attention for the first episode because I was looking at Pride and Predjudice edits on my phone, but when it hit the garden scene with Simon and Daphne my phone was off. I liked the first season, but I didn’t love how daphne got pregnant the first time, and I will leave it at that. I’m very upset that I didn’t get to see their marriage evolve more in the second season.
The second season really drew me in. Kate is absolutely stunning and so is Anthony. Anthony knew he wanted Kate the entire time because he caught feelings in the first scene of the first episode. I truly believe that he pursued Edwina just to get closer to Kate, but I’m not entirely mad about it. But the bee scene though, I was quaking. The fact that he was so concerned for her made my heart melt. One thing that bridgerton knows how to do is pick up the heavy breathing of the actors, and I’m here for it. The slow burn of their relationship killed me, but also was the reason I watched it in a day. I couldn’t sleep until I knew that him and Kate were going to end up together. I thought I was in the clear, but then Kate went into her coma, then she was talking about moving to India, suffice to say I was up until 1:00 am that night. They’re relationship felt so safe and comforting to me. Anthony let Kate put her guard down and rest.
Now onto my favorite season. I now have about 20–and counting—Penelope and Colin edits saved on my phone, I truly can’t get enough of them. I loved how they let Penelope’s hair down, it is 1000% her look. When she made her entrance into the ball on the first episode, in that beautiful green dress, Colin noticed her, and the look he gave was nothing like the looks gave her in the first season. Colin’s face screamed yearning. I don’t think that Penelope knew what she was doing with that kiss; I don’t think the kiss was a trap, or just a quick way to get him to catch feelings, I genuinely believe that she thought she would never wed. I cannot stop thinking about the pastry scene. The way Colin looked at her was so passionate I was going to scream and I loved how naive she was to it, it made the carriage scene much more intense. I loved how whenever Colin would steal Penelope from Debling he could barely speak because he was mesmerized by her. And then there’s the carriage scene, arguably the best scene in the entire show. The way Colin confesses his love to Penelope and the fact that he chased after her made me so giddy. But I have to say after reading the book, I much more prefer the carriage scene in the book because it comes after he finds out she’s lady whistledown. In the book, Colin’s finding out that Penelope’s Lady Whistledown is far less chaotic. The thing I’m mad about with this season is how long Colin held the grudge against Penelope, you could tell how afraid she was to lose him. But I am so glad that I get to see them next season with their baby, and based off a teaser I saw, there is another mirror scene.
I absolutely fell in love with Colin bridgerton these past two days. I don’t think I have ever felt so strongly about a character in my entire life. I rewatched both the mirror scene and carriage scene more times than I’d like to admit. Let’s just say Colin bridgerton had become my new standard, so if anyone knows how to time travel, or can get me Luke Newtons phone number I would greatly appreciate it.
